Wayne Hopp

EAU CLAIRE, WI —  Wayne W. Hopp, 64, of Eau Claire died Monday, Nov. 17, 2008, at his home after a long battle with cancer, with his family by his side. He was born in Chippewa Falls on Nov. 18, 1943, the son of Warren and Winnifred (Peloquin) Hopp.

Wayne grew up in Eau Claire and graduated from Mason City High School in Mason City, Iowa. He served in the U.S. Marine Corps during the Vietnam War. Through the years, he always kept in contact with his Marine Corps friends, who were a special part of his life.

Wayne married Jane M. Guenther on April 26, 1969, in Cuba City, Wis. He worked as a truck driver for Reinhart Foods for many years until his retirement in 1999. Wayne enjoyed spending time with his friends and family. He loved walking and bike riding with his special granddaughter, Megan, who had a very special place in his heart. Wayne enjoyed going to the casino and playing cribbage with his wife, Jane. They had many good laughs and loved spending time with each other. Wayne had a great laugh and a big heart. He will be sadly missed by all who knew him. He was a Past Commander of VFW Post 7232 in Eau Claire.

Wayne is survived by his wife, Jane; daughter, Heidi (Greg) Kunz of Augusta; granddaughter, Megan Kunz of Augusta; brother, Jim (Cookie) Johnson of Chippewa Falls; sister, Winnifred (Roger) Jergenson of La Crosse; sister-in-law, Arlene (Dean) Hugdahl of Racine; and many nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his parents; and his son, Christopher.

Funeral services will be at 6 p.m. Thursday, Nov. 20, 2008, at Lenmark Gomsrud Linn Funeral Home, with the Rev. Russell Kampfer officiating. Burial will be at 9 a.m. Friday, Nov. 21, at Rest Haven Cemetery in the town of Washington, where VFW Post 305 will conduct military graveside honors.

Visitation will be from 3 to 6 p.m. Thursday at the funeral home.
